Using a Forward Mailbox on CRM 4.0

February 7th, 2008

I’ve been getting a lot of e-mail and questions around how you can use Forward Mailboxes on CRM 4.0, so here’s a video that should help clear things up.

Depending on your deployment, there’s essentially four reasons why you might choose to use a Forward Mailbox over individual mailbox monitoring (as in the other two videos).

  1. One set of credentials for a single mailbox.
  2. Forwarding e-mails to the forward mailbox is accomplished by inbox forwarding rules in Exchange, which can be customized by the user.
  3. Efficiency, as we are polling one mailbox instead of many.
  4. Reliability, as you are not as susceptible to things like password changes/expiration.

Enjoy!

    Hey Mike.

Been trying to get this going with an Exchange 2007 setup, but having all sorts of isses with the incoming test.

#26090 - An error occurred while opening mailbox crm_forward@crm4.yourasp.com.au. Microsoft.Crm.Tools.Email.Providers.EmailException: The remote Microsoft Exchange e-mail server returned the error “(401) Unauthorized”. Verify that you have permission to connect to the mailbox. —> System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.

What/how exactly is the forward mailbox trying to connect to the Exchange mailbox?

    Cheers.

    Hello Michael,

I’m trying to do what you’ve done on my CRM 4.0 Virtual Machine, but I don’t have the Rule Deployment Wizard. Isn’t this Wizard included?

    Thanks for great videos!

    Michael,

Any idea why the router will route fine when all email is selected in the user drop down but not when CRM leads contacts and accounts is selected?

  6. Anthony Says:

Seeing as though no one has sorted this out.

Try using the mailbox server role address as opposed to the CAS role (OWA site address)

WebDav is configured on the mailbox server.

Hello Michael. Very helpful background and videos. We ran into a problem integrating with Exchange 2007 SP1 on Windows Server 2008 (IIS 7). The CRM E-Mail Router is unable to connect to the Exchange mailbox type. From your post, I figured that the router uses WebDAV to communicate with Exchange 2003/2007 servers, however IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008 does not have WebDAV, which is deemphasized. The router fails. After some digging, I found that there is a stand-alone WebDAV module for IIS 7 http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/350/installing-and-configuring-webdav-on-iis-70/ However, my attempts to make the router work with it were unsuccessful so far. Perhaps, it has to do with the legacy “Exchange” virtual directory in IIS 7 and Exchange 2007. At this time, we’re using the POP3 workaround, but would like to use the native Exchange type integration. Please advise.
